Watch out Fear Factory....watch out Slipknot...watch out Pantera...here comes DERIDE!

Deride started in the fall of 1995 in a cramped, stinking rehearsal room in Bergen, Norway. Their first gig was at the local Rock Pub 'Garage' where they proceeded to impress everybody with their raw, untamed force. The local press described the gig as one of the best debuts ever seen in Bergen. Over the next two years Deride did more live shows both in Bergen and out of town. They have played locally and opened for national and international acts such as fellow Scandinavians Entombed.

Deride's first demo CD received great reviews in magazines the world over. The tracks even reached the top of the metal charts on MP3.com. Over time, their personal interests began to go in different directions, however. This destroyed much of the creativity in the band, and by the fall of 1998 half of the band left, leaving Walaunet and Greve with nothing but a name. This was the beginning of a frustrating year for the two--they tried hard to find musicians--but this was much harder than expected in Bergen, a small town with a small music scene. By the the fall of 99 things again began to settle. They found a new singer in Frediablo and a new bass player in Tarjei. After recording 3 new songs and shopping the CD to various labels, the band was discovered by and signed to The Music Cartel.

Scars Of Time is Deride's debut release. The album will appeal to fans of Fear Factory, Slipknot and Pantera. Deride pushes the boundaries of both extreme metal and more melodic rock by combining the two elements in a very unique way. Frediablo comments on this aspect of the band, "Energy, aggression, power grooves, grinding guitars, extreme vocals, clean vocals, atmosphere & melodies--you name it--all types of metal are represented.” He goes on to describe how Deride fits into today's trend of new-metal. "I listen to the same bands I listened to 10 years ago--they are the only bands that have, for me, stood the test of trendy times. I believe we have to search the past to learn our musical lessons--trends will never replace passion." Not surprising when you consider that the band's main influences include the likes of Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Ozzy, Pantera, Slipknot, Meshuggah and Faith No More.

"Deride is a group of four very different individuals," Frediablo concedes. "We are different as people and also as musicians. I personally think that's a good thing, because we bring our different lifestyles, opinions, experiences and musical visions to the creative process and the internal dynamics of the band--which makes it not only more challenging, but also more interesting."

Frediablo explains how he got interested in music, "I didn't choose music, it chose me. Music is the one thing that I'm really good at, so it was never a question of choosing, it was meant to be. Music has always been my way to express my innerself, my demons & passions. Music has also worked as therapy for me." Frediablo also has several side projects including Gorelord, an extreme metal band signed to Phil Anselmo1s Baphomet/Housecore Records.

The band is currently gearing up for the international release of Scars Of Time on June 12, 2001 and will embark on a European tour shortly thereafter to support the album
