What was the overall idea for the album? What is it about, or what direction would you say you took?

This album covers a lot of ground. It's a collection of the best songs we wrote over the last 2-3 years. A few of the songs we've played on tours already, but most of them, no one has heard yet. For the subject matter, I didn't want it to just be about living in NYC. I wanted to talk about the people I've met during our travels and to also look back to where I grew up. I started touring when I was a teenager and have never stopped moving. This album was about where I am now, but also a return to where I grew up in the South West. The experiences I had living in these places, touring around, my close friends, of moving from Tucson to Oregon, to San Francisco, to Austin, Texas, to New Orleans, and eventually to New York all of that made it's way into these songs. I also went through a huge break up last year so of course that made it in there too.

For the music part, I co-wrote a lot of it with my guitarist and best friend, Greg Touhey. I've been writing songs with him for about 10 years now and we've developed a lot of chemistry in how we write. He's the most talented musician I know. Greg always has a way of looking at the song, and knowing exactly what part to bring in to make it unique. For the first time, we brought in Josh Dion of the band Paris Monster on drums. We were also lucky enough to get Chris Morrissey on bass, who's played and with everyone from Mason Jennings, to Andrew Bird, to Keb Mo. These two created an amazing rhythm section. I've known them from the local scene and have seen them play out but never got to work together until now. It was a blast record with them. All the songs were produced, engineered and mixed by my long time friends, the incredible Chris Cubeta and Gary Atturio. They run my favorite recording studio in NYC, Studio G. in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. These guys are the best and deserve a lot of credit how it all came out. They slammed their hearts on the table for it. I have to say we're all looking forward to the release and getting this out to our friends and fans.

The album is called Another Day Blown Bright. Where did the title of the album come from?

The title came from the lyrics the last song on the album, "Another Disguise". "Shimmer like a motel sign, bottle on the bed, no dream tonight, another day blown bright, another disguise". This song's lyrics gives a few different looks at what disguises we wear in our lives and tries to capture the often mysterious nature of how we hide ourselves. For that specific line that became the title, I can best describe it by starting off with a photograph that is too dark, that is underexposed. The way we often deal with the darkness in our lives we try to bring light in. But if you bring in too much light, or artificial light, or simply push it too hard, you overexpose the image to the point that the light distorts it. The image becomes "blown out". It's not necessarily a bad thing even if it's not completely true. Sometimes it's a sublime effect.

That particular song and lyrics all came together at the same time I found the image for the album cover, which I think fit the idea and worked across the theme of the album.

QUOTES STEVE WAITT STRANGER IN A STRANGER LAND

Ein paar sehr schöne Balladen gelingen ihm auch, etwa das bedächtig shuffelnde „A Ghost You Let In“, der energische Folk von „Go On Then“ und das in seiner Melancholie an James Taylor erinnernde „Tell Him It’s Alright“.
