NAHKO & MEDICINE FOR THE PEOPLE
Album: Take Your Power Back
Label / Vertrieb :Side One Dummy / Cargo
Lyric Video: TWISTED
In a career built on reflective, deeply personal songwriting, Nahko’sextraordinary new album, ‘Take Your Power Back,’ stands as far and away his most profound, revelatory, and fully realized collection yet. Recorded in Los Angeles and Executive Produced by cut&dry and Dan Fratoni, the record grapples with grief, trauma, and reconciliation, learning to face heartache head on and embrace the peace and serenity that comes with understanding and acceptance.
As heavy as all that may sound, ‘Take Your Power Back’ is as uplifting and infectious as anything Nahko has ever released, blending socially conscious folk and rock with soulful, alt-R&B, genre-bending production. It’s an album of growth, of courage, of resilience. It’s a testament to the beauty and evolution that can come from fully inhabiting our pain, and it’s proof positive that our true power—spiritual, physical, and emotional—inevitably comes from within.
“I had half a year just to cultivate and create on a deeper level with this record,” Nahko explains. “I realized that I hadn’t allowed myself to explore some of the darker parts of my psyche before because I’d never had the language for it. I started going to therapy, and for the first time, I saw just how much work I needed to do. It could be painful, but sometimes you have to go through the mud to find the flowers.”
Born to a Puerto Rican/Native American mother and a Filipino father, Nahko was adopted by a white, conservative, Christian family in Oregon and raised under the name David Bell. He later learned that his birth was the result of a rape, that his biological mother had been fourteen and sold into sex work at the time he was conceived, and that his biological father had gone on to be murdered.
A sixth-generation Apache, he took on the moniker of Nahko—a play on his middle name, Nahkohe-ese, which translates to Little Bear—as a way of reclaiming his roots, and in his late teens and twenties, he began traveling the country, spending stints living as far afield as Hawaii and Alaska as he wrestled with identity, purpose, and perception. Backed by his band, Medicine For The People, Nahko released his debut album, ‘On The Verge,’ in 2011, but his true breakthrough came two years later with ‘Dark As Night.’
The record was a critical and commercial breakout, landing in the Top Ten on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart andearning the band festival slots at Outside Lands, Electric Forest, Wanderlust, Bumbershoot, and more. Over the next four years, Nahko would go on to release two more celebrated albums with his band, solidifying his reputation along the way as an outspokenactivist and advocate for both social and environmental justice.

"There's twisted psychology to the Depression-era dance marathons," so PROPHET. "And like Wrestling or the Kardashians, it's all rigged. But we don't want to believe it. The Marathons blurred the line between theatre and reality."

When the Dream Syndicate emerged in the early 80s, frontman Steve Wynn declared that “we’re playing music we want to hear because nobody else is doing it” –he added,“I’ll comprise on what I eat or where Isleep, but I won’t compromise on what music I play.”
Both were true, and although their template of Velvet Underground meets Crazy Horse may seem commonplace today (and let’s not forget, the Syndicate spawned manyimitators), their raw twin guitar, bass and drums approach was not common during an era when slick polished MTV bands ruled. Thebandwere uncompromising. But before MTV switchedto reality shows, they were no more.
That uncompromising ‘tude continues on April 10th,2020 whenAnti releases the band’s 7th album, The Universe Inside. After 23years,they remergedin 2012with a slight change in lineup-guitarist Jason Victor replaced Paul B. Cutler-and after a blaze of touring, they recorded their first album in decades, How Did I Find Myself Here?
The album was surprisingly fresh (the addition of former Green on Red keyboardist Chris Cacavas provided lush textures previously unknown in their guitar-based music) and more surprising was a vocal cameo from co-founding member, the long-lost chanteuse Kendra Smith.
More touring (joined by now official member Cacavas) followed quickly by another album These Times–which refined the sonic landscapes explored on How Did I Find Myself Here?
This band is not regurgitatingold albums and previous glories, but developing with the same urgency that a pack of youngsters would.

Gitarrist Will Swan kommentiert wie folgt:
"'Prisoner' is a captivating piece of the eclectic puzzle that is Afterburner. It showcases yet another leap in our constant evolution, and I can’t wait for people to hear what this album has in store."

Afro/Indigenous/Colombian/Canadian/punk/folklorist/traditionalist/transgressive/diva/angel. There are so many layers to Canadian-Colombian singer Lido Pimienta’s identity that you might get lost in them. But if you did, you’d be missing the point. Her multi-textural, mind-bending voice and music project what Canada’s The Globe and Mail called her “bold, brash, polarizing” persona, which constantly confronts the powers that be. But it also reveals an embrace of the Afro- and Indigenous traditions that is at once defiant, delicate and sweetly nostalgic.
Pimienta’s new album Miss Colombia takes her ecstatic hybridity to a new level, building on the “nu” intersection of electronica and cumbia established by her first two albums, Color, released in 2010, and the 2016 Polaris Prize-winning La Papessa as Canadian album of the year. The latter was the first 100% independently released, non- English or French album to win the $50,000 prize. Produced with Matt Smith, a/k/a Prince Nifty, Miss Colombia overflows with the kind of understated genius that promises yet another breakthrough.

Midland-born, Toronto-based indie rock band Born Ruffians—guitarist/vocalist Luke Lalonde, bassist Mitch DeRosier, and drummer Steve Hamelin—are proof that a group of friends with a tireless work ethic and fierce, grassroots commitment to their labour’s integrity and vision can still go a long, long way. 15 years into their career, the trio isn’t slowing; instead, they’re doubling down on those designations with JUICE, their 6th full-length record. It’s a hyper, earnest, and affecting collection of rock and roll songs, written and polished over a three-year span then sewn together into a cohesive and uniquely enjoyable experience. It’s Born Ruffians as they’ve always been: on their own terms, heads against the wind until their work is done.
"Here’s the thing: you get further as a band when all members embrace the strength of their creative relationship, keeping the external demands and pressures at bay” says Lalonde. “JUICE kind of reflects that as a title. We’re squeezing more out of this bond that we've forged over so many years.”
JUICE, due on April 3, 2020 via Yep Roc Records, embodies the band's longstanding history, exhuming Born Ruffians' early days in Toronto, while dissecting their relationships with that time and the memories they hold. “Was it all the way it seemed? How I wonder what you see/In that wavy haze,” Lalonde belts on the chorus.“ It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,” Lalonde explains with a grin. Those days were marked by equal doses of anxiety and excitement, living hand to mouth in a basement in downtown Toronto. “That anxiety will exist forever, I think,” says Hamelin. “But the more you take your life into your own hands, it alleviates some of that anxiety.”
Akt. Video: Paradise Lost a poem by John Milton
"I’ve always been a bit obsessed with Paradise Lost. I really dug deep into the poem and its author, John Milton. As I was reading a lot of his political essays, I realized that a lot of what ’Satan’ says in Paradise Lost are quotes directly from John Milton’s own mouth. A lot of people thought he was the devil back then. He had a huge problem with the show of opulence from the Church. He thought it was disgusting. His poem is about the failed revolution against the Church of England, which is Satan’s failed revolution on earth. And what’s more incredible or exciting than a failed revolution?"
Ende 2019 veröffentlichten die Amerikaner den Album-Track "Blow Me" feat. FEVER 333-Frontmann Jason Aalon Butler.

Since 2008, Asking Alexandria have paved a path of their own, distilling danger and excess into an equally dangerous hybrid of stadium rock ambition, metallic energy, and electronic ecstasy. Against all odds, they achieved unprecedented success earmarked by two gold-certified singles (namely, “Final Episode (Let’s Change The Channel)” and “Not The American Average”), over a billion cumulative streams and views, and three consecutive top 10 debuts on the Billboard Top 200—Reckless & Relentless , From Death to Destiny , and The Black . In addition to headlining packed gigs on five continents, they destroyed stages alongside Guns N’ Roses, Green Day, Avenged Sevenfold, Alice In Chains, and Slipknot, to name a few. Meanwhile, 2017’s self-titled Asking Alexandria spawned two of the group’s biggest singles to date: “Alone In A Room” (40 million Spotify streams) and “Into the Fire” (30 million Spotify streams).
Fanning the flame like never before, the quintet—Ben Bruce [guitar, backing vocals], Danny Worsnop [lead vocals], James Cassells [drums], Cameron Liddell [guitar], and Sam Bettley [bass]—burn even brighter on their 2020 sixth full-length, Like A House On Fire [Sumerian Records].

Jeder der 10 zumeist live aufgenommenen Songs ist eine Einladung die Welt des Künstlers zu entdecken und daran teilzuhaben Um es mit den Worten des Künstlers zu sagen: ?Shelf life is a record about growing up to realize you are not the person you thought you would be. It is a collection of songs that wades between tides of past and present, success and failure, things lost and things found“. Schon der Vorgänger ENOUGH ABOUT ME (2027) war eine wunderbar ironische Selbstreflexion und wurde entsprechend hochgelobt

A prolific writer, producer, and performer, M. Ward has established himself as one of modern American music’s most unique and versatile voices. While he’s perhaps best known for his own remarkable output—nine acclaimed studio albums that have prompted Rolling Stone to hail him a “folk hero” and The Guardian to praise him as “a maverick auteur who draws upon blues, folk, country and art-rock, and is equally adept within each genre”—Ward may be equally celebrated for his wide-ranging and adventurous collaborations.
In just the last decade alone he’s teamed up with Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis, and Jim James to form the beloved super group Monsters of Folk, paired with Zooey Deschanel for six records as She & Him and worked in the studio and on the road with the likes of Mavis Staples, Jenny Lewis, Norah Jones, Cat Power, Neko Case, Lucinda Williams, Peter Buck, and countless more.
Ward’s newest album, ‘Migration Stories’ (out April 3), marks his tenth studio release and his debut for ANTI- Records. Recorded at Arcade Fire’s Montreal studio, the collection is languid and hazy, blurring the lines between reality and fantasy as it reckons with a world that feels more divided than ever before, even as its inhabitants grow more inextricably linked by the day. Ward’s delivery is tender and gentle throughout the album’s eleven intimately rendered meditations, but there’s an undercurrent of darkness floating just beneath the surface, a persistent sense that the end may be closer than any of us dare to realize.

Album: Keep On Keepin On

"Frasco has this natural knack for blending danceable funk-rock and soul into songs that are actually fun to ingest, even if the subject matter is depression." -American Songwriter
His upcoming LP Keep On Keepin' On is out April 24th via SideOneDummy Records. The album is a powerful musical snapshot of what's going on with Andy, his band and his fans. It’s a therapeutic helping of rock n roll with powerful pop and Americana roots influence. " Keep On Keepin' On lands somewhere between an emotionally raw therapy session and a rowdy house party." When first announcing the LP Frasco shared a special "Wellness" video album trailer, " We all have things that make us who we are. Some things are just uncomfortable to talk about, so we tend to suppress those feelings because we don’t want our friends and social media followers to look at us as weak. It’s time to speak up about not just the good things in our life but the bad as well. This is who I am." Andy is currently on tour in the US and later this year he will perform at some of the countries biggest festivals including Bonnaroo, High Sierra, Summer Camp, Peach, Floyd Fest and more dates are listed below.

MakeWar first burst through the Southern Border Wall and onto the national stage from such shithole countries as Venezuela, Colombia and Florida in 2016 when Brendan Kelly: failed tastemaker, member of the Lawrence Arms and co-founder of Red Scare Industries played a show with Jose in Bushwick during a blizzard and was so impressed by his acoustic troubadourship that he decided, with the most discerning of tastes, that whatever Jose’s band was, if they played those songs, shit, it was good enough for Red Scare. They put out Developing A Theory of Integrity on Red Scare in 2016 , which was a ripping skatepunk/Brooklyn Emo Night hybrid that caught everyone off guard with its unabashed dynamism and brass balls while somehow effortlessly still remaining faithful to MakeWar’s influences. Based on the chops showcased on DATOI, they were tapped to tour and play shows with such legendary bands as Strung Out, Teenage Bottlerocket, The Flatliners and more. See a pattern here? Well, apropos of nothing, turns out next thing you know, Old Jed’s a millionaire! The iconic Fat Wreck Chords (home to such great bands as Strung Out, Teenage Bottlerocket and The Flatliners, to name a few) tapped MakeWar to join their already impressive roster which led to the creation of Get It Together, a uniquely fresh eyed and youthful rallying cry, somehow made by seasoned punks, tempered with anger, heartache, a dash of Latinx hardcore rage and a virtuosity that belies their relatively short tenure as a band. Fat will drop this multi-lingual, multi-genre, multigrain slab of fury, beers, tears and what-have-we-here’s on the world on November 1st, 2019.

März ihr ANTI-Debüt "The Caretaker" an.
"Recognizing your own ordinariness can be depressing, or it can be a relief. In Ordinary Talk, I wanted to honor and celebrate my ordinariness as an incredible tool for making me feel less alone. The song is a reassurance that feeling bad - or 'ill' - isn't something that needs to be corrected. There's a depth of experience that comes from feeling emotions at their extremes. And it is, in fact, this vivid, varied messiness that makes us human and ordinary. The corresponding video, written in collaboration with director Kenna Hynes, tracks the progression from isolation to communion as we move from a tableau of a troupe of strange courtiers to the neon lights of a good old house party. And as the song shifts and melts away, the cast of characters follows and looks outward: up toward the vast night with its unsettling drift of stars, over a vista of coffee cups and blue TV screens and folded t-shirts - the million tiny moments that define our days."
"The Caretaker" folgt auf das hochgelobte "Lavender". Während sich "Lavender" noch mit neuen Ansichten über Leben und Tod, über Apokalypsen, Terror und Tragödien befasste, fokussiert "The Caretaker" das Innenleben der Musikerin und setzt sich zudem mit dem Wunsch nach Unabhängigkeit auseinander.
Album : Find The Sun
Label / Vertrieb: Anti / Indigo
“Overall, a lot of these songs are about trying to reach yourself - how to be your most brilliant self,” kommentiert DERADOORIAN. “...because we come from a culture that doesn't actually support this. We are so deeply programmed to obey societal boundaries that we don't even know the power we contain within.”
Band : The Suicide Machines
Album : Revolution Spring
VÖ : 27.03.2020
Label/Vertrieb : Fat Wreck/ EDEL
Website : https://fatwreck.com/collections/the-suicide-machines
akt. lyric Video: Anarchist Wedding
It was in 2006 that Detroit punks The Suicide Machines called it a day after 15 years and six full-throttle, super-charged and confrontational albums. The break didn’t last too long – in 2009, the four-piece crew reconvened to play the occasional local shows and embarked on some even less frequent tours. There was no sign of new material – until now!
Revolution Spring, the band’s seventh album, and first new material since 2005’s War Profiteering Is Killing Us All, will be released March 27th, 2020. What’s more, this new album full of blistering, rousing songs finds the band on truly explosive and energetic form. So why now you may ask? “Everyone just kind of got inspired,” chuckles vocalist Jason Navarro, about the band’s decision to begin making music again. “That’s all. I think we were watching all these other bands ride a wave of nostalgia and we didn’t want to be lumped into that, so we started writing a couple of songs and it went from there.”
Over the course of a couple of years, the band – completed by drummer Ryan Vandeberghe, bassist Rich Tschirhart and guitarist Justin Malek (who is also the drummer in Navarro’s post Suicide Machines outfit Hellmouth) – wrote a total 30 songs. With the help of both Less Than Jake's bassist Roger Lima, who produced Revolution Spring, and The Code's frontman Marc Code, who is their longtime friend and now manager, The Suicide Machines whittled those 30 songs down to the 16 that make up this record. While on the one hand, these songs serve as an overview of the band’s career and the different permutations of punk they’ve dabbled in over the years, it also possess the energy, spontaneity and enthusiasm of a band many years their junior – albeit with the wisdom that comes from being alive for a few decades.

The Homeless Gospel Choir, the musical moniker of songwriter Derek Zanetti, has just announced a brand new full-length, This Land Is Your Landfill, due out April 24th, 2020 on HASSLE RECORDS.
Since 2009 the Pittsburgh, PA-based project has mostly been a solo affair, rooted in Zanetti's blend of singer/songwriter intimacy and punk rock delivery, but the release of This Land Is Your Landfill marks a reinvention for The Homeless Gospel Choir. Driven by personal upheaval, Zanetti gathered an all-star cast of punk collaborators to create the kind of raucous, full-band album that he'd always dreamed of.
The Homeless Gospel Choir has shared a taste of this new direction with 'Young and in Love' a blast of fuzzed-out, '90s-inflected guitars and roaring bass that finds Zanetti paying tribute to the freedom that can come from artistic expression. The song reaches an anthemic conclusion with a triumphant refrain and vocal contributions from Zanetti's fellow musicians.

Veteran “thrashgrass” band Days N Daze has spent more than a decade doing it themselves in a way few can match. From the beginning, Whitney Flynn (vocals/trumpet) and Jesse Sendejas (vocals/guitar) have forged their own path—playing acoustically so they’d have less gear and could perform anywhere, booking and promoting themselves, and self-recording and self-releasing their albums. Days N Daze—rounded out by Meagan Melancon on washboard and Geoff Bell on gutbucket—have done it all on their own, thank you.
In the rare instances when they work with outsiders, they stick with people they know. Which is why, after a dozen hardscrabble years, they’ve joined Fat Wreck Chords for their eighth full-length, Show Me the Blueprints., out 5/1/20.
Sendejas calls the decision “terrifying.” Flynn describes it as “massively intimidating.” And they couldn’t be happier.
“It’s been pretty awesome—just the positive reinforcement and the drive,” Flynn says. “They've really pushed us to go that extra mile, to get that confidence in ourselves, to keep going, keep making music.”
Band: Christian Lee Hutson
Label: Anti / Indigo
akt. Video: Lose This Number
Newly signed to ANTI- Records, Christian Lee Hutson today announced his new album Beginners—produced by Phoebe Bridgers—will be released on May 29th, 2020. He also shared the Zoe Donahoe and Adam Sputh-directed video for the stirring first single “Lose This Number” which features backing vocals by Bridgers and a string arrangement by Nathaniel Walcott (Bright Eyes). “I think ‘Lose This Number’ is about someone fixating on the past, wishing they could go back and change things,” explains Hutson. “My friends Zoe and Adam made fake rain, granny’s basement, dragged a mattress onto a rooftop, and vacuumed up thousands of feathers in order to bring their beautiful video for this song to life.” Donahue and Sputh add, “We believe in the imagery that Christian’s music already presents, and wanted to create something that allows you to bask deeper in its lyrical and sonic intimacy, instead of distracting you. We opted for something overwhelmingly honest that takes you with Christian through a few dreamy scenarios in life, which often tend to unfold through immeasurably small moments.”
On “Lose This Number,” Hutson reveals one of his greatest strengths as a songwriter: a rare ability to infuse his lyrics with myriad idiosyncratic detail, yet leave the narrative slippery enough for the listener to fill in their own meaning. Throughout the song, his storytelling is threaded with incisive turns of phrase (e.g., “It’s like I was born on the back of a bullet/With your name written on it”). News of Beginners and “Lose This Number” follows the Los Angeles-based Hutson’s previous single “Northsiders” released last year as an early preview of the album to praise from outlets including The New York Times, Rolling Stone (‘Song You Need To Know’), Stereogum, Uproxx, Paste, and Brooklyn Vegan, among many others.

The No Ones, the new bi-continental collaboration featuring Scott McCaughey, Frode Strømstad, Peter Buck, and Arne Kjeisrud Mathisen, will release their full-length debut album, The Great Lost No Ones Album, on March 27 via Yep Roc Records. The first single, “No One Falls Alone,” is now at all streaming services and the album is available for pre-order.
Stretching from Norway through Athens, Georgia to the northwest corner of the United States, and consisting of members from R.E.M., I Was A King, The Minus 5, The Baseball Project, etc., The No Ones are classic two guitars, bass, and drums, sounding like what you might expect, only different, more-so, and better!
The 13-track album was recorded in June 2017, at Type Foundry by Adam Selzer in Portland, OR, and features Patterson Hood (“Straight Into The Bridge” and “Sweet Home Mississippi”), Darren Hanlon (“All You Need Is Rain,” “Too Blind To Believe, “Turn Again”), Andrew Reiger and Davey Wrathgabar (“Dream Something Else”), Lucy Parnell (“Sun Station Vadsø”), and Debbi Peterson (“Gone”).
With music by the collective and lyrics by McCaughey about abduction, interstellar mysteries, witchcraft, climate change, gentrification, and the desolation of the soul, their vocal harmonies and psychedelic flourishes fuse the sunny turbulent sounds of the ‘60s with the darkness and decay of present day.
Band: Western Addiction
Album: Frail Bray
Label / Vertrieb: Fat Wreck / Edel
Western Addiction refuse to be confined to any preexisting genres. Their sound hop-scotches between blistering hard-core, cryptic lyrics, and an anxiety cyclone of moody rhythms. It is precisely these emotional juxtapositions that make their band so unique. Today, we’re thrilled to divert your attention to their lead single, “They Burned Our Paintings,” streaming via YouTube, Spotify, or anywhere that you get your digital fix. The track is lifted from their third full-length, Frail Bray, out May 15th, and is available for pre-order.
Working for the first time with producer Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Jeff Rosenstock, Gouge Away), Western Addiction tracked Frail Bray live to tape—another first for them—at the Atomic Garden in Oakland in late 2019. Guest musicians feature Darius Koski (Swingin' Utters) on viola, violin, piano, tambourine, and backup vocals on their track, "Wildflowers of Italy." Another FAT family guest appearance is the powerhouse, Brenna Red, from The Last Gang! Brenna provides backup vocals for "The Leopard and the Juniper," "Frail Bray," and "Rose's Hammer II."
Vocalist Jason Hall expounds on their latest effort below:
With a cosmic shot of pure irony, our new record, Frail Bray, is about...hope. It's easy to be terrible. It's hard to be thoughtful, hopeful, and kind. Let's try. The first single, "They Burned Our Paintings," is about degenerate art in the 1920s and 30s.
