Die kanadische Polit-Punk Band PROPAGANDHI präsentiert mit ”Victory Lap“ einen brandneuen neuen Song
Der Track kündigt das gleichnamige am 29.09.17 erscheinenden Album auf Epitaph an, das erste seit dem 2012er Release ”Failed States".
Confrontational and cathartic, “Victory Lap” delivers Propagandhi’s signature hybrid of snarling riffs, urgent rhythms, and politically charged lyrics. Like much of Victory Lap, the track captures the frenetic energy off an unapologetically political band at a time when political speech seems overwhelmingly fractured.
Since forming in Manitoba in 1986, Propagandhi have brought an emphatic anti-fascist message to their music. Along with addressing a number of personal losses suffered in recent years, Victory Lap finds the band facing a landscape in which fascism is—among a certain crowd—suddenly trendy.
Victory Lap also marks Propagandhi’s first album with new guitarist Sulynn Hago, who joins Samolesky, frontman Chris Hannah, and bassist Todd Kowalski. Replacing longtime guitarist David Guillas (who appears on several tracks on Victory Lap), Hago was added to the lineup after Propagandhi put out a call for audition tapes and received over 400 responses.

The Boston-based PVRIS just tore through SXSW, performing at the MTV Woodies and the TUMBLR “Planned Parenthood” event, which USA Today called “the hottest ticket at SXSW.”
With ALL WE KNOW OF HEAVEN, ALL WE NEED OF HELL, the Boston-based PVRIS (vocalist Lynn Gunn, guitarist Alex Babinski and bassist Brian MacDonald) will look to build upon the success of White Noise and a collection of songs that’ve amassed over 113 million Spotify streams and close to 32 million YouTube views to date (including 17 million Spotify streams and 3.8 million YouTube views for their “You And I” single).
In support of White Noise, the band performed on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” were spotlighted on “Last Call with Carson Daly,” toured arenas with Fall Out Boy, hit No. 1 on Billboard’s “Emerging Artists” and “Trending 140” charts and launched a headline tour that saw them play to packed-house crowds around the world. NME called them “a rock sensation,” Spin dubbed them a “breakout band,” MTV described them as “the best thing since sliced bread” and the Huffington Post called Gunn “a force that cannot be denied.”
Fans can catch the band performing “Heaven” live on their upcoming arena tour with Muse and Thirty Seconds To Mars. The tour, which kicks off May 20th, will be preceded by a string of European shows, a May 13th date in Richmond, VA, with Weezer and a May 20th Hangout Festival set, which will see PVRIS sharing the stage alongside Twenty One Pilots, Major Lazer, Sigur Rós and more.

Powered by neck-snapping guitars and fast and furious bars, the song cycles between guttural rapping and quick quips. Everything culminates on the choral chant “We never sleep, in California we’re dreaming.”
“It dissects both sides of California,” J-Dog reveals. “You’ve got the glitz, glamour, sun, and surf. Then, you’ve got the super fucked side of people not being able to afford rent, celebrities being assholes, and that fake façade. We wanted to do a heavy song with a Red Hot Chili Peppers-esque chorus. It’s an old school vibe explored in a new way.”
Known for atomic live performances, the quintet regularly sells out shows around the world from Massachusetts and Miami to Moscow and Manchester. Oktober den Nachfolger von “Die Reise zum Mittelmaß der Erde“. Auf “Perspektiven“ wird die Geschichte von Alex Mofa weitererzählt.

Like a lot of bands and other incendiary devices, the Dream Syndicate began in a basement.
In the final days of 1981, Dennis Duck, known in the LA scene as the drummer of post-punk stalwarts Human Hands, met up in Los Angeles for a subterranean rehearsal with Steve Wynn (guitar, vocals), Karl Precoda (guitar) and Kendra Smith (bass), three scruffy and noisy kids of no particular renown. Despite mostly consisting of long jams on CCR’s version of “Susie Q” and a few embryonic Wynn compositions, the rehearsal left the quartet feeling they were on to something that, if nothing else, was the sound they had been seeking and most certainly not finding on the local scene..... .....The reunited band took everything in baby steps. A few shows here and there—a couple of European tours, sporadic US dates (the first being a still talked-about set at Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival)—“We were playing just enough to become a band but not enough to spook the giddy reality that it was actually happening.” The shows were exciting---for both the band and the eagerly awaiting fans, many of whom weren’t even alive when the band were around the first time. The next step was to see if the excitement and newfound chemistry would extend to the studio.
“It just felt like a good idea to see how it would work in the studio,” says Wynn. “From the start we said we had to love what we recorded or else we would make sure that nobody ever heard it. Nothing in between.” Steve, Jason, Mark and Dennis retreated to Montrose Studios in Richmond, Virginia with old pal and Green On Red founder Chris Cacavas on keyboards and acting as co-producer with the band. From the first day of recording it was apparent that the band was making an album that would live up its history and take their story into the present.

Real life that began in a basement in 1981 and now feels very much above ground and ready to continue the tale in 2017. And the circle never ends.

With its widely celebrated 1982 debut The Days of Wine and Roses, the band soon emerged at the forefront of the 1980s college-rock scene.
Over the years, the Dream Syndicate has proven to be a massively influential force in the world of alternative rock, with artists like Kurt Cobain listing the band among their inspirations. As Wynn points out, the band itself was greatly influenced by underground pioneers like the Fall, the Gun Club, Neu!, and Big Star.
This fall, the Dream Syndicate will tour throughout Europe in support of How Did I Find Myself Here? US and European tour dates listed below.

The best art often challenges widely held preconceptions about performance and beauty. We’re moved when we find the sublime in the gross, entranced when crassness collides with grace. It makes poetic sense that one of this practice’s finest current purveyors is named after a blood-sucking survivor.
Deer Tick: undercutting expectations since 2004.
“I think a lot of my favorite artists have always done stuff like that,” Deer Tick front man John McCauley says from his home in Nashville, reflecting on his band’s love of unexpected mashups: tender lyrics layered over pissed off guitars; classical music flourishes delivered nearly naked and high. Deer Tick’s perfected it all, mostly as an outlier, revered by a legion of fans, respected by peers, but not part of any one scene. With their highly anticipated new project(s), two new albums released simultaneously titled Deer Tick Vol. 1 and Deer Tick Vol. 2, the crew from Rhode Island prove that their punk-roots rock has only gotten better with age.
Ambitious and smart, the twin albums complement one another but also stand independently. Vol. 1 is classic Deer Tick: folk-rooted acoustic guitars and soft piano cushion out-front vocals. Vol. 2 commits wholly to the band’s longtime garage-rock flirtations for a triumphant foray into punk.
McCauley sees the two records as a natural progression. “I think it’s something that was bound to happen, just because I’ve always had one foot in each door,” he says. “Every album we’ve put out has had its manic moments in one way or another. I felt good enough about everything that I was writing to think that we could truly separate our two big interests: quiet and loud.”

Es gibt nicht viele Musiker, die ein Genre so nachhaltig prägten, wie Mark Olson das des Alternative Country oder Americana. Gerade, als sich der kommerzielle Erfolg des amerikanischen Singer/Songwriters abzuzeichnen begann, entschloss er sich dem Musikbusiness den Rücken zuzukehren und in Joshua Tree, am Rande der Mojave Wüste niederzulassen, um unabhängig von allen kommerziellen Zwängen selbstbestimmt Musik zu machen. Olson, der in Minnesota aufwuchs, hat inzwischen mit der norwegischen Sängerin und Multi-Instrumentalistin Ingunn Ringvold eine neue kongeniale Partnerin für Leben und Musik gefunden und veröffentlichte 2014 zusammen mit ihr das laut Rolling Stone “perfekt unperfekt, romantisch und lebensverliebt“ klingende “Good-bye Lizelle“ via Glitterhouse Records. Jetzt folgt am 19. September endlich mit 'Spokeswoman of the Bright Sun' der lang ersehnte Nachfolger. Ein Album das in seiner Einfachheit und Ehrlichkeit zu Herzen geht. SLIME sind wieder da und wir brauchen sie dringender als je zuvor: “Hier und Jetzt“, das erste SLIME-Album mit neuen Liedern seit 1994, ist ein mitreißendes Dokument zur Zeit und auch musikalisch das bislang beste Album der Punklegenden. Keine Nostalgie, nichts klingt altbacken – der Titel ist weit mehr als nur Symbolik. Natürlich würde die Gruppe SLIME gerne auch mal darüber singen, wie schön das Leben in einer freien und solidarischen Gesellschaft ist, wo sich alle immer nur lieb haben. Allein: Die Verhältnisse geben das nicht her. Und so gibt es auch auf “Hier und Jetzt“ keine schönen Liebes-, Sauf-, und Fußballlieder, sondern es geht um neue und alte Nazis, Biedermänner und Brandstifter, Entsolidarisierung in neoliberalen Zeiten und um Gentrifizierung. Es ist also alles wie immer – und doch ganz anders.
“Zum Beispiel sind thematisch durchaus einige Dinge hinzugekommen“, sagt SLIME-Gitarrist Christian Mevs. “Als großes Problem betrachten wir die Hinwendung zum totalen Individualismus, dieser extreme Narzissmus, zum Beispiel in den sozialen Medien, bedroht die Freiheit, weil damit eine Entsolidarisierung einhergeht.“ “Früher hat man sich gegen die Volkszählung aufgelehnt“, ergänzt SLIME-Sänger Dirk “Dicken“ Jora. “Heute geben die Leute ihre Daten ganz von selbst preis. Man macht sogar seine Bankgeschäfte selbst und zahlt dafür auch noch, und kaum einer scheint sich daran zu stören.“ Eine Entwicklung, die, so Michael “Elf“ Meyer “die hemmungslose Ausbreitung des Turbokapitalismus maximal begünstigt.“
Für ihre politische Haltung sind SLIME bekannt, sie ist ein elementarer Bestandteil ihres künstlerischen Selbstverständnisses. “Unsere wesentliche Motivation hat sich vom ersten Tag an aus dem dringenden Bedürfnis gespeist, Protestlieder machen zu wollen“, sagt Mevs. Insofern hat sich auf den ersten Blick nicht viel geändert auf “Hier und Jetzt“. Was in der öffentlichen Wahrnehmung der vielleicht wichtigsten deutschen Punkband aber traditionell zu kurz kommt, sind die enorme Musikalität und die stilistische Breite, mit der SLIME ihre Anliegen vermitteln – und genau dieser Aspekt wird sich spätestens mit dem neuen Album nicht mehr länger ignorieren lassen.

Toronto's Bunny blend rock elements with dream-pop synths in an ethereal collage of hooks and melody on their self-titled debut album, out August 18th through Tin Angel Records. The album draws from its influences, most prominently channeling the Beach Boys (Pet Sounds) in its production approach and early Ween (Chocolate & Cheese) in its flair with an air of Nilsson for extra flavour.
Members of Bunny are Drew Smith (Grapes Godly, The Bicycles), Jordan Howard (The Magic, I Am Robot and Proud), Andrew Scott (Biblical, The Bicycles, Sebastian Grainger), Dan Werb (Grapes Godly, Woodhands) and Jay Anderson (Grapes Godly, Biblical, Comet Control). What is the new magic of music? If you trace the path of a plan back to its beginnings, what do you find? Is it a tree, growing from seed with deep roots planted in fertile soil, branches arcing out in all directions? Or a spark in the dark, an electrical charge? Is it a waterway, with swirling currents raging to create a river? Or is it a snowflake, falling from on high and dropping down to earth with a singular splash?
For Son Little, the genesis of a musical idea—the magic—remains largely a mystery. But his kinetic ability to summon that energy all the same, to command it, hold onto it, and set it in motion, is the stuff of alchemy.
“The magic is this well I can draw from; you can’t necessarily see it, you just have to believe that it’s there,” he says. “If you believe, then you can reach your hand down in there and get it wet. But if you don’t feel like it’s there, it won’t be.”
Son Little, the singer and songwriter born Aaron Livingston, is the easygoing musical alchemist of our time. He is a conjurer, and much like those of his heroes Stevie Wonder and Jimi Hendrix, his songs are deconstructions of the diaspora of American R & B. Deftly he weaves different eras of the sound—blues, soul, gospel, rock and roll—through his own unique vision, never forced, always smooth, each note a tributary on the flowing river of rhythm and blues. The currents empty into an estuary, and into this well water Son dips his bucket—trusting innately in the magic’s existence. In 2005 the first tunes of Nasty saw the light of the world.”The beginning“ prepared the way for their first album “Declaring War”, which dropped a year later via Fuck This Recordings. After some first shows in Germany, France and Belgium it was time to write and release their second album “Aggression” in 2008 via Goodlife Recordings, followed by “Give a Shit” in 2010. Nasty started playing more shows and also went touring throughout Europe.
3 years later the band was ready to drop their “Love” record via BDHW recordings. That 4th album was released worldwide and made Nasty tour the US, Japan, Russia and Europe. After several tours, their first headliner and two packed festival summers, it was time for the 5th highly anticipated album, which shocked the world in 2015. “Shokka” was their biggest release up to date. NOVELISTS ist eine französische Metalband aus Paris, die sich im Jahre 2013 gründete als Florestan und Amael Durand die ehemaligen A CALL TO SINCERETY-Mitglieder Matteo Gelsomino, Nicolas Delestrade und Charles-Henri Teule kennenlernten.
Fleißig wie die fünf Jungs nun mal sind starteten sie ihre Karriere damit, in zweimonatigen Abständen gleich 6 Singles zu veröffentlichen, die ihnen schnell eine starke und treue Fanbase einbrachten! Kurze Zeit später veröffentlichten sie dann ihr Debüt-Album »Souvenirs« bei Arising Empire/Nuclear Blast im November 2015. Nach einer ausgiebigen Europatour mit Bands wie FOR TODAY, BREAKDOWN OF SANITY, DREAM ON DREAMER, SILENT PLANET und weiteren, haben sich NOVELISTS dann auf Sommer-Tour begeben mit bekannten Bands wie WHILE SHE SLEEPS und NORTHLANE um die Promo-Phase zu »Souvenirs« perfekt zu vollenden.

Stillstand war für Kele Okereke noch nie eine Option. Stattdessen sucht er immer wieder neue Wege, seine leuchtenden Songs zu präsentieren. Letztes Jahr erfand er erfolgreich seine Band Bloc Party neu und kehrt nun mit seinem dritten Soloalbum “Fatherland“ zurück. Die adrenalinreiche Elektronik seiner früheren Alben “The Boxer“ und “Trick“ weicht diesmal einer ursprünglicheren, fast schon klassischen Klangpalette: zarter Folk (“Streets Ben Talking“), üppiger Soul (“Do U Right“) und tiefgründiges Dub-Reaggae-meets-Weimar-Cabaret (“You Keep On Whispering“). Von Bloc Partys hektischem Indierock ist weit und breit nichts zu hören.
Keles Texte sind wie gewohnt einfühlsam und persönlich. Sie wirken wie ein Spiegelbild seiner Gedanken, als ihm bewusst wurde, dass er bald Vater werden würde: seine Tochter Savannah wurde im Dezember 2016 geboren.
“Dieses Album wird für Savannah zum einem Dokument über die Beziehung ihrer Väter werden und wer wir waren, bevor sie in unser Leben trat.“, freut sich Kele und balanciert seine Tochter auf den Knien herum, während er im Garten hinter seinem Haus in London sitzt. “Sie wird sehen, dass wir noch nicht die Antwort auf alle Fragen haben, aber es zumindest versuchen.“
“Fatherland“ war ursprünglich als größtenteils akustisches Album vorgesehen. Produziert wurde es von Bloc Party-Bassist Justin Harris in Portland, Oregon. “Er hat ein Studio mitten im Wald auf einem Berg. Ich blieb eine Woche dort und spielte mit den verschiedensten Musikern zusammen. Auf dem Album sind über 20 von ihnen zu hören – die größte Besetzung, mit der ich je gearbeitet habe. Es hat viel Spaß gemacht, obwohl wir unter ziemlichem Druck standen. Wir hatten uns für eine zu kurze Zeit zu viel vorgenommen und improvisierten sehr oft. Manchmal muss man das einfach tun und hoffen, dass das Richtige dabei herauskommt. Und ich glaube, das tat es auch.“

Seit ihrem letzten Album “Nichts zu verlieren“ ist viel passiert bei den Düsseldorfern: Die ROGERS haben lässig die Charts geknackt und sich auf unzähligen Konzerten viele neue Freunde erspielt – sei es auf der extrem erfolgreichen Headliner-Tour mit unvergesslichem Heimspiel im ausverkauften Düsseldorfer Zakk, als Support von solch unterschiedlichen Bands wie Bad Religion, Callejon und Jennifer Rostock oder bei denkwürdigen Festival-Abrissen auf dem Vainstream oder Deichbrand. Mit ihrem dritten Album “Augen auf“ etablieren sie sich endgültig als feste Größe in der deutschen Musiklandschaft.”Meine Einflüsse sind vor allem frühe Epitaph-Bands wie Pennywise, The Offspring und Bad Religion. Die werden immer in meinem Herzen und somit ein Teil unserer Sounds sein“, betont Gitarrist Nico. In der Tat stehen neue Nummern wie “Nie Euer Land“, “Wohin“, “Tagesschau“ oder das Titelstück in genau dieser Tradition und strotzen nur so vor eingängigen Melodien und kräftig durchgetretenem Gaspedal. Doch damit nicht genug – die ROGERS haben ihr Spektrum signifikant erweitert, ohne sich dabei selbst zu verlieren. “Wir haben uns noch nie so frei gefühlt und ohne Zwänge einfach das gemacht, worauf wir Bock hatten“, grinst Nico. Folgerichtig gibt es viele neue Facetten zu entdecken: So knallt “Vorbei“ mit fröhlichem Ska-Flair aus der Boombox, “Einen Scheiß muss ich“ rotzrockt breitbeinig mit schnoddrigem NDW-Flair, und die sentimentale Ballade “Früher“ zeigt Mut zu überraschend leisen und Tönen ohne Kitschfaktor. Für Spannung sorgen zudem immer wieder die subtilen Metal-Schlenker von Drummer Dom, der gerne einen kleinen Break oder Fill einstreut. Passend zur kreativen Sturm-und-Drang-Phase erweiterten die ROGERS für “Augen auf“ ihr Studio-Team und arbeiteten neben ihrem Stammproduzenten Michael Czernicki zusätzlich mit Markus “Eki“ Schlichtherle (u.a. Callejon, Madsen) zusammen. Neben dem größeren musikalischen Spektrum begeistert das neue Album auch mit beachtenswerter kompositorischer Reife, exemplarisch für die enorme Entwicklung steht z.B. die melancholische Hymne “Helden sein (feat. Sebastian Madsen)“.

Ein kreativer Quantensprung!
Das nächste Album ist immer das schwerste. Besonders das verflixte zweite kann jede Menge Verdruss bereiten. Daran sind schon ganz andere gescheitert. Nicht so das weibliche Rockabilly-Gesangstrio The Silverettes. Nach großartigem Debüt “Real Rock’n’Roll Chicks“ (2014) hatten die Vokalistinnen Ira, Jane und Nina für ihre nächste Produktion nur ein Ziel vor Augen: Sich kreativ weiterzuentwickeln. Nachfolgewerk TALK DIRTY, einmal mehr mit absolutem Händchen fürs Rockabilly-Metier produziert vom eingespielten Team Adriano BaTolba (u.a. Dick Brave & The Backbeats, Peter Kraus, Adriano BaTolba Orchestra) und Pomez di Lorenzo (u.a. Ben, Der Wolf, Sasha, Thomas Gottschalk, Uwe Ochsenknecht, Boppin' B, The Baseballs, The Firebirds, Addys Mercedes), nimmt sich im direkten Vergleich zum beachtlichen Erstling wie ein kreativer Quantensprung aus: Anstatt Coverversionen, zauberte die vom Adriano BaTolba Orchestra sowie von Gitarrist Andy Bach, Bassist Christoph Herder und Schlagzeuger Bernhard Weichinger begleitete Crew bei den mehrwöchigen Sessions mehrheitlich Selbstkomponiertes aus dem Hut. Anstatt im anarchisch archaischen Rockabilly, eine Überblendung aus Rock’n’Roll, Blues, Country, Hillbilly und Rhythm'n'Blues, zu verharren, dominiert abwechslungsreicher Stil-Crossover.

Wie bei den Untergangsszenarien und apokalyptischen Visionen auf dem Debüt “2064“ sind Angst und Erstaunen noch immer The Chairmans Treibkraft. Doch auf “The Strange Life“ wagt sich der junge Dänen Lucas Berner mutig einen Schritt näher zu sich selbst.
Dass das Bild vom Sportfotografen Ray Giubilo ein Teil des Albums werden sollte, war das erste, was Lucas Berner wusste. Es wurde das Cover und inspirierte den Titel. Absurde Zufälle des Lebens: Die einen müssen hart arbeiten, damit die anderen Tennis spielen können.
The Chairmans alt. Pop-Universum enthält Querverweise zum Soul, zum R’n’B, dem Collagerock und Hip Hop und schreckt weder vor großem Pathos noch einer imposanten Produktion zurück. “The Strange Life“ sind autobiografische Erzählungen von Liebe und destruktiver Angst. Man findet die Eine, doch die Angst, diese wieder zu verlieren, zerstört das Verhältnis. “Ein Liebes-Oxymoron“, sagt Lucas Berner.

It seems hard to believe, but the boys in Teenage Bottlerocket aren’t boys any more: They’ve been a band for more than 15 years, and have spread their pop-punk gospel across the world through a series of killer records like Total and They Came From The Shadows and an equally killer live show, one that is packed full of sing-alongs and circle pits. Despite the rise of social media and digital streaming services, Carlisle knows the best way to connect to music is through one-on-one connections like that—and this helped inspire the creation of Stealing The Covers, the Wyoming punk quartet’s new album, comprised of 14 songs all by bands Bottlerocket has encountered throughout their travels, from groups who share their same ZIP code to complete strangers who passed along a CD at a gig. “The idea first came to light 10 years ago,” Carlisle says. As far as I can remember, my brother Brandon came up with the idea. We just thought, ‘Let’s do an album of doing songs by our friends’ bands.’ But some of these bands aren’t even our friends!” For example, take the delightfully named “Shit Fuck God Damn” by Bremerton, Washington’s Artimus Maximus, a song played for Carlisle way back in 2003 by a friend in another band. He has been a fan ever since. “We have never met these dudes,” Carlisle admits. “I don’t know their names, I don’t know what they look like. We reached out to every band, and they’re the only ones who didn’t get back to us.”

Come to think of it, what exactly might Grit be, other than a strong personal skill to cultivate and grow? Showing some grit has as much to do with perseverance and inner determination as it does with thrusting straight ahead, reaching for goals with serious power. Grit is an interesting mix of passion, investment and hard work. Unsurprisingly, all four members of GRIT, the band, are all about persistence, rhythm. They’re tenacious musicians and would rather open doors than close them, but don’t mind kicking them open if needed. They’ve chosen the kind of rock that comes with abrupt edges, but they’re just as happy to drag their shoes in the sand, drawing poetic and fierce contours around their world.

For nearly two decades, Willie Watson has made modern folk music rooted in older traditions. He’s a folksinger in the classic sense: a singer, storyteller, and traveller, with a catalog of songs that bridge the gap between the past and present. On Folksinger Vol. 2, he acts as a modern interpreter of older songs, passing along his own version of the music that came long before him.
Southern gospel. Railroad songs. Delta blues. Irish fiddle tunes. Appalachian music. Folksinger Vol. 2 makes room for it all. Produced by David Rawlings, the album carries on a rich tradition in folk music: the sharing and swapping of old songs. Long ago, the 11 compositions that appear on Folksinger Vol. 2 were popularized by artists like Leadbelly, Reverend Gary Davis, Furry Lewis, and Bascom Lamar Lunsford. The songs don’t actually belong to those artists, though. They don’t belong to anyone. Instead, they’re part of the folk canon, passed from generation to generation by singers like Watson.
And what a singer he is. With a quick vibrato and rich range, he breathes new life into classic songs like “Samson and Delilah,” one of several songs featuring harmonies from gospel quartet the Fairfield Four. He’s a balladeer on “Gallows Pole,” whose melancholy melodies are echoed by the slow swells of a four-piece woodwind ensemble, and a bluesman on “When My Baby Left Me,” accompanying himself with sparse bursts of slide guitar. “Dry Bones” finds him crooning and hollering over a bouncing banjo, while “Take This Hammer” closes the album on a penitent note, with Watson singing to the heavens alongside a congregation of Sunday morning soul singers.
