Jill Barber Stands With The #MeToo Movement With Video For "Girl's Gotta Do"

Lead Single From Metaphora Bows At #1 On Apple Music Canada's Singer-Songwriter Chart

Jill Barber has just released the video for "Girl's Gotta Do," the lead single from her upcoming album Metaphora (out June 22 via Outside Music.)

"Girl's Gotta Do" premiered at CBC's Q, and debuted at #1 on Apple Music Canada’s Singer-Songwriter Chart. Barber calls the song a “challenge to the patriarchal status quo as we usher in a new era of equality."

The video debuted at PopMatters, who write, "If the women's movement of the 21st century — whether it's #MeToo or #TimesUp — needed a hashtag theme song to carry its message, this versatile vocalist who can handle jazz, pop, blues, folk and rock 'n' roll on any given night, delivers it with genre-fender-bender style."

It was directed by Juno Award-winning director Christopher Mills, whose work includes videos for Modest Mouse ("Float On,") Leonard Cohen ("Leaving The Table,") and Broken Social Scene ("Stars and Sons.")

A bold entrée into the world of contemporary pop music, Metaphora reveals a Jill Barber we’ve never heard before. Metaphora showcases her power and vulnerability as both an artist and a woman. Evolving over the course of many albums from folk to jazz, R&B and pop, Jill’s success is defined not by genre, but by her undeniable songwriting chops and distinctive voice. Metaphora is a continuation of Barber's musical story that confidently tackles everything from issues of empowerment, sexual politics, the complications of love, and depression. It's introspective and personal. It's also a dance party.

Mutual friendships and living on the same street led Jill to sit down with Ryan Guldemond, the enigmatic lead singer of Mother Mother, for inspiration and creativity. Ryan's commitment to Jill and unwavering enthusiasm garnered co-writing credits on four of the nine songs on Metaphora, including the instantly catchy lead single, “Girl's Gotta Do," a hook-filled and very timely call to arms that aims to "challenge the patriarchal status quo, as we usher in a new era of equality," says Barber. "Writing with Ryan was a big departure for me, and very exciting. He's extremely creative and not afraid to push my creative boundaries," recalls Barber. "The sessions became part songwriting and part therapy because I was writing about things that felt pretty raw; politics, sexism, being a mother. I started to realize that this was going to be a very different kind of album for me. I had more that I needed to say and Ryan helped bring that out with his uncanny knack for melody and song structure."

Metaphora's opening track "The Woman" generates a sense of anticipation with its pounding bass drum, an urgent heartbeat for what is next to come from the fearless multi-Juno nominated performer. "It's a song about how a woman is required to be everything to everyone, but may still be a mystery to her own self," shares Barber. "She is part of nature, but also has a nature of her own, ever-changing and elusive." On "Bigger Than You," Barber explores a personal experience that she hopes may inspire others to take a stand against tactics like power plays, bullying and manipulation. "Mercy" is a striking piano ballad Barber wrote for anyone who battles daily with their inner critic, or wrestles with the beast of depression. "Hooked Your Heart,” “Clumsy Heart,” “Cage Without A Key," “Love Is,” and “Hold On” round out Metaphora.

On the advice of trusted friends, Jill reached out to producer Gus Van Go (Whitehorse, Arkells, Terra Lightfoot), who immediately took on the project and began to craft a complete vision for Metaphora. They recorded at Van Go's studio in Brooklyn, NY, with creative partner Werner F and multi-platinum Grammy nominated producers Chris Soper and Jesse Singer, collectively known as Likeminds, who perform all the drums, piano and analogue synths on the album. Additional tracks were recorded and produced by Gavin Brown and Maia Davies at Toronto's Noble Street Studios.

On Metaphora, Jill Barber bursts back onto the stage with a bold and daring offering of music, confidently executed with the style and grace of a woman who knows exactly what she's doing.

ANTI- is proud to announce the release of ALL THE THINGS THAT I DID AND ALL THE THINGS THAT I DIDN'T DO, the anticipated new album from 2x GRAMMY® Award-nominated acoustic band The Milk Carton Kids. The LP is available for pre-order beginning today. ALL THE THINGS THAT I DID AND ALL THE THINGS THAT I DIDN'T DO arrives everywhere on Friday, June 29.

The Milk Carton Kids' fourth studio album, ALL THE THINGS THAT I DID AND ALL THE THINGS THAT I DIDN'T DO is heralded by today's NPR premiere of the project's unprecedented centrepiece, "One More For The Road." An epic 10 minute-plus musical excursion through folk, jazz and psychedelia, the landmark track serves as a remarkable signpost of what the album has in store. "One More For The Road" is available today for individual purchase and on all streaming services.

The Milk Carton Kids - a.k.a. singer-guitarists Joey Ryan and Kenneth Pattengale - will celebrate ALL THE THINGS THAT I DID AND ALL THE THINGS THAT I DIDN'T DO with a wide-ranging tour, including North American headlining dates beginning April 25 in Milwaukee. The schedule also includes a number of dates supporting John Prine as well as festival appearances at such summer gatherings as Pasadena, CA's Arroyo Seco Weekend (Saturday, June 23rd). For updates and ticket information, please visit

The Milk Carton Kids underwent a number of dramatic changes in the time since their last recorded outing, 2015's acclaimed MONTEREY. Ryan is now the father of two children and works as a producer on Live From Here with Chris Thile. National politics have left him feeling disoriented and mournful. Pattengale's relationship of 7 years ended, he is now producing records in Nashville, and he survived cancer - breaking a long cigarette habit in the process. Perhaps as a result, ALL THE THINGS THAT I DID AND ALL THE THINGS THAT I DIDN'T DO is the band's most profoundly personal thus far, the evocative full band sound providing a mournful, disorienting foil for lyrical themes of mortality, loss, heartbreak and national decline.

"We wanted to do something new," Pattengale says. "We had been going around the country yet another time to do the duo show, going to the places we'd been before. There arose some sort of need for change." "Musically we knew we were going to make the record with a bigger sonic palette," says Ryan. "It was liberating to know we didn't have to be able to carry every song with just our two guitars."

Having spent much the last decade affirming themselves as among contemporary folk and Americana's finest songwriters, musicians, and live performers, The Milk Carton Kids ascend to even greater heights with ALL THE THINGS THAT I DID AND ALL THE THINGS THAT I DIDN'T DO. The band's most expansive and experimentally minded collection to date, the LP was recorded last October in the Sun Room at House of Blues Studio in Nashville, TN with GRAMMY® Award-winning producer Joe Henry (Solomon Burke, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Carolina Chocolate Drops) and GRAMMY® Award-winning engineer Ryan Freeland (Ray Lamontagne, Bonnie Raitt). The Milk Carton Kids once again opted to push the envelope of their distinctive sound, this time crafting their first-ever LP to feature backing by other musicians. ALL THE THINGS THAT I DID AND ALL THE THINGS THAT I DIDN'T DO sees Ryan and Pattengale joined in the studio by a truly stellar lineup of top session players, including Russ Pahl (Kacey Musgraves, Blake Shelton) on pedal steel and other guitars, bassists Paul Kowert (Punch Brothers) and Dennis Crouch (Gregg Allman, Johnny Cash), Wilco's Pat Sansone on piano, mellotron, and Hammond organ, drummer Jay Bellerose (Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Elton John, Willie Nelson), cellist Nathaniel Smith (Sarah Jarosz, Abigail Washburn), Levon Henry (Blake Mills, Nico Muhly) on clarinet and saxophone, Live From Here with Chris Thile favorite Brittany Haas on fiddle and mandolin as well as Lindsay Lou and Logan Ledger lending additional vocals .

Founded in 2011, The Milk Carton Kids swiftly emerged as a major force in the continuing American folk tradition, blending ethereal, oscillating harmonies and intricate, inventive musicianship with a uniquely powerful brand of contemporary songcraft. 2013's ANTI- debut, THE ASH & CLAY, proved their national breakthrough, earning The Milk Carton Kids their first GRAMMY® Award nomination, for "Best Folk Album." A second GRAMMY® nomination for "Best American Roots Performance" followed in 2015, honoring "The City of Our Lady," from The Milk Carton Kids' acclaimed third studio album, MONTEREY.

The Americana Music Association Award-winners for "Best Duo/Group," The Milk Carton Kids have spent much of the past decade on tour, as international headliners, worldwide festival favorites, and special guests to such like-minded artists as Old Crow Medicine Show, Punch Brothers, Sarah Jarosz, The Lumineers, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Josh Ritter, and The Avett Brothers. Ryan and Pattengale have also made numerous high profile media appearances, including TBS' Conan, CBS This Morning, and NPR Music's Tiny Desk Concerts.

In addition, The Milk Carton Kids have proven in-demand collaborators, including musical partnerships with Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle, Shovels & Rope, Chely Wright, Joe Henry, Dar Williams, and the great Chris Hillman, as well as teaming with T-Bone Burnett & Joel and Ethan Coen for the acclaimed concert documentary, Another Day, Another Time: Celebrating the Music of Inside Llewyn Davis. In 2016, the band joined forces with Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle, Patty Griffin, Buddy Miller, and Robert Plant for the sold out Lampedusa: Concerts for Refugees tour.

Tracklisting: Just Look At Us Now / Nothing Is Real / Younger Years / Mourning In America / You Break My Heart / Blindness / One More For The Road / Big Time / A Sea Of Roses / Unwinnable War / I've Been Loving You / All The Things That I Did And All The Things That I Didn't Do

Band: Parkway Drive
Album: Reverence
VÖ: 04.05.2018
Label: Epitaph Records / Indigo

Epitaph Records is pleased to announce the upcoming release of Reverence, the sixth studio album from Australian metal band Parkway Drive. Due out May 4, Reverence is the most sonically adventurous and emotionally intense effort yet from the Byron Bay-based five-piece. "Reverence represents the most honest and personal record we have ever created," says Parkway Drive frontman Winston McCall. "It has been born though pain, sacrifice, and conviction, with the ultimate goal of expanding not only what Parkway Drive stand for musically, but who we are as people. Thank you for listening." Today marks the premiere of "The Void," one of the many heart-shredding anthems featured on
Reverence. Directed by Allan Hardy, the video fully channels the furious energy of "The Void," a track built on thrashing rhythms, ferocious vocal work, and deeply infectious melodies.

Produced by longtime Parkway Drive sound engineer George Hadjichristou, Reverence arrives as the follow-up to 2015's IRE--Parkway Drive's most hugely successful album to date and a major force in boosting their ever-growing worldwide following. In addition to broadening the band's sonic palette, Reverence offers up some of Parkway Drive's most devastating songs yet.

"I'm used to playing with another person. To do something like that by myself, I was kind of nervous," said New Orleans' Walter "Wolfman" Washington of his intimate new record My Future Is My Past, coming out April 20. Featuring Irma Thomas, Ivan Neville and Jon Cleary and produced by Ben Ellman of Galactic, this is the Wolfman's first album with ANTI- Records.

"Oh man, it was really a thing," he smiled and continued. "I had never done something like that. I had to really discipline myself where I couldn't really underplay and really overplay, so I had to stay really in the middle which was a trick for me. I was amazed at my own self at how it turned out."

74 years young, Walter "Wolfman" Washington has been a mainstay in the New Orleans music scene since the early 1960s. He cut his teeth backing up some of the best singers and performers in New Orleans history including Lee Dorsey, Johnny Adams, and Irma Thomas before putting together his long time band The Roadmasters, who have been burning down and burning up local and national stages since their first gigs in the 1980s. This new record confirms what fans have known for years: Walter "Wolfman Washington has soul to go along with that fire.

Washington has always embodied both the wildness and sophistication of New Orleans, but finally we have a set of songs that reflects the yin to Walter's bring-the-party yang. This is the record that we all have known he has in him. This is the night after that party, or maybe just the after party. He's been given free rein to express himself, and that's special.

DAVE HOLLAND Reunites With EVAN PARKER for Freewheeling 2-CD / 3-LP Set, Also Featuring CRAIG TABORN and CHES SMITH Out May 11 on Dare2 Records

Bassist Dave Holland can set a groove in motion, whether he's playing in 4/4 or a more uneven time signature. This skill can be felt in his quintet and big band ensembles in addition to more recent projects like Aziza (with guitarist Lionel Loueke, drummer Eric Harland and saxophonist Chris Potter) and Prism (with Harland, keyboardist Craig Taborn and guitarist Kevin Eubanks). But for the latest release on the bassist's Dare2 imprint, Holland once again visits free improv, or as he prefers to call it, "open form improvisation." Uncharted Territories, which will be released in 2CD and 3LP formats, reunites him with saxophonist Evan Parker, a longtime friend from their early days in London. They're joined by Craig Taborn, on piano and electronics, and Ches Smith on percussion. In addition to quartet improvisations, they also broke off into every possible subset of duo and trio configurations. The group also recorded two compositions by Smith and one by Holland. A resulting 23 tracks present a series of deep, multi-layered conversations between the musicians, some of whom were interacting for the first time.

Band: Matthew Barber
Album: Phase Of The Moon
VÖ: 04.05.2018
Label: Outside Music / H'Art

Phase Of The Moon is the title of the plaintive and soulful new offering from Toronto singer-songwriter Matthew Barber on the Outside Music label. Following his Gary Louris-produced Big Romance (2014) and Juno-nominated collaboration with sister Jill on The Family Album (2016), Phase Of The Moon marks Barber's confident return to producing himself, with veteran Ken Friesen handling the engineering duties. The introspective, first person narrative voice that has become a hallmark of Barber's writing is further developed and refined on this new collection of songs that explore themes of love, commitment, purpose, fulfillment and meaning. Throughout, Barber's delivery is honest and direct in a style that tips its hat to the golden era of 70's singer-songwriters, yet remains uniquely his own.

The songs on Phase Of The Moon were mostly written in a tiny studio apartment in the Paris neighbourhood of Montmartre where Matthew and his wife spent a month in early 2017. It came with a small upright piano and had thin walls, which could explain why piano songs sung in deeper, hushed tones feature prominently on the record. The winter sojourn in Europe provided a welcome respite from the all-consuming media madness back home, and coupled with a steady diet of existentialist reading material, served to foster a mood of almost contented melancholy that seeped into the songs and runs throughout the record. This mood is at times manifested in the form of a solitary searcher reflecting on what's come before and wondering what lies ahead, and at other times through words of support addressed to a concerned partner that reveal a commensurate plea for reassurance that everything's going to be ok. The quiet storm is punctuated by necessary and at times exuberant affirmations of love, hope and wonderment, and a spirit of embracing life in all its complexity endures.

Band: Neko Case
Album: Hell-On
VÖ: 01.06.2018
Label: Anti- Records / Indigo

Brace yourself for Hell-On, Neko Case's latest album, coming June 1 from ANTI- Records.
Five years have passed since Case's last solo project, The Worse Things Get, the Harder I Fight, the Harder I Fight, the More I Love You. In the interim, she sang on Whiteout Conditions, the 2017 release from longtime bandmates the New Pornographers. The year before that, she released a vinyl box set of her solo work and joined k.d. Lang and Laura Veirs on the case/lang/veirs project.

Recording that record was a revelation, from Veirs' innovative guitar tunings to Lang's skills in studio. "I learned so much experiencing the work ethic of those two," Case says. She considers Lang "probably the most natural producer I've ever seen. Watching her work was awe-inspiring."

After their national tour together, Case found similar transcendence in October 2016 sitting on a panel at the first-of-its-kind "Woman Producer" summit in Brooklyn, NY. Between discussions and performances from a diverse group of women who produce music from around the world, she wondered how it had taken such a long time to get to that moment, and why so many female pioneers had been forgotten.

She felt lucky to have worked with the people she had encountered across her career--Darryl Neudorf, Tucker Martine, Craig Schumacher, and Chris Schultz among them--who encouraged her to expand her own skills in studio. But she had also gotten fed up with a world in which women's accomplishments seemed to vanish from public memory. "The George Martins and Quincy Joneses of the recording pantheon deserve every drop of praise and every project they have received," Case says. "But we can't keep telling the same stories over and over. We need more stories, more inspiration, more flavors."

Band: A Perfect Circle
Album: Eat The Elephant
VÖ: 20.04.2018
Label: BMG / Warner

April 2018 erscheint.

Band: Dave Alvin & Jimmie Dale Gilmore
Album: Downey To Lubbock
VÖ: 01.06.2018
Label: Yep Roc / H'art

Folk heroes unite on Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore's odyssey across the American west, ?Downey To Lubbock", the first-ever musical collaboration between kindred spirits and lifelong friends arrives june 1 via Yep Roc Records.

"It's like we've been playing together since we were kids," says Downey, California's Dave Alvin of his musical partnership with Lubbock, Texas native Jimmie Dale Gilmore. Given their myriad of shared influences and the undeniable chemistry the pair exhibits on 'Downey To Lubbock' (June 1/Yep Roc Records), it seems hard to believe they haven't.
Friends for over three decades, it took Alvin - the founder of seminal punk roots band The Blasters - and Gilmore, of the pioneering country-folk trio The Flatlanders, until last year to collaborate at long last. Embarking on a spontaneous twelve-city tour, the two seasoned veterans of the road found a mutual love of New Orleans Rhythm & Blues, Texas and West Coast Country Music, traditional folk and early Rock n Roll. Their duo sets could effortlessly drift from Merle Hagard to Sam Cooke to the Youngbloods, and the pair had so much fun they began planning a record as soon as the tour wrapped.

The result is 'Downey To Lubbock,' a twelve-song collection that takes on a diverse range of American music spanning nearly one hundred years. Along with ten covers, Dave Alvin wrote two originals for the record: the autobiographical title track and the fantastical "Billy The Kid and Geronimo." The latter sees Alvin and Gilmore trade verses as their folk heroes have a prescient bar room debate on morality, oppression and injustice.

Band: Jonathan Davis
Album: Black Labyrinth
VÖ: 25.05.2018
Label: Sumerian Records / ADA Warner

It would be nearly impossible to mistake anyone else for Jonathan Davis. The overpowering figure he casts behind that H.R. Giger-made microphone remains just as iconic as his signature scream does. A true original, the Bakersfield, CA singer, songwriter, composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist indelibly impacts millions as frontman for alt-metal/rock game-changers Korn--whose accolades encompass two GRAMMY® Award wins, worldwide sales of 40 million-plus, and countless sold out shows in nearly every corner of the globe. Throughout over 20 years in music, his presence coursed through the film scores, contributions to popular video game franchises, and official remixes for the likes of Steve Aoki and more. Along the way, he lent his voice to tracks for everyone from Linkin Park to Tech N9ne. However, 2018 sees him doing something he has yet to do: release his first solo album.

Writing and recording on the road, he played guitar, keys, and anything else he could get his hands on. Moreover, the music was primarily record live. Led by the single "What It Is," it continues a tradition by boldly treading new territory.

"I've always got to be different," he leaves off. "Once again, I'm doing something I haven't heard before. This is my swan song. It's my fucking masterpiece up to this point."- Rick Florino, January 2018

Band: Pennywise
Album: Never Gonna Die
VÖ: 20.04.2018
Label: Epitaph Records / Indigo

On April 20, Pennywise will release their new album Never Gonna Die. The legendary punk band's twelfth full-length, Never Gonna Die is the first full album of new songs with singer Jim Lindberg, guitarist Fletcher Dragge, drummer Byron McMackin, and bassist Randy Bradbury in over a decade.

Produced by longtime Pennywise collaborator Cameron Webb (Motörhead, NOFX, Alkaline Trio), Never Gonna Die came to life in the same space where the band penned classic songs with late bassist Jason Thirsk. With their quintessential power to merge the subversive and the celebratory, Pennywise have built the album on fast-paced anthems expertly engineered to inspire radical change, personal empowerment, relentless hijinks, and reckless fast times.

Formed in the South Bay of Los Angeles--a neighborhood with a rich punk-rock history--Pennywise began in 1988. The band went on to amass an international following with their relentless touring and a melodic, high-energy sound fusing classic punk, surf punk, and blistering hardcore. Through the years, Pennywise have solidified their place in punk history with iconic songs like "Fuck Authority," "Alien," and "Bro Hymn" (their timeless ode to brotherhood and departed friends).

Album: Solitudes
VÖ: 18.05.2018
Label/Vertrieb: Motor / Edel

(Im Mai Auf Tour mit Ben Folds)

Born of a Polish father and a Quebecer mother, Matt Holubowski grew up in a bilingual household in Hudson, QC and has always lived at the crossroads of the French and English languages. This notion of isolation of two cultures within a single territory fascinates this globe-trotter; lover of his planet and its infinite cultures. With this second album, Solitudes, the self-taught musician, poet and composer offers eleven titles that in many ways evoke isolation, estrangement, and exile, but also delves into the forms of solitudes we seek and often at times need.

Holubowski's unmistakable voice and steadfast personality was revealed to some through his appearance as a finalist on the super-popular TV show La Voix. He has since worked tirelessly, surrounding himself with invaluable musical collaborators, with Stéphane Bergeron (Karkwa) on drums, Marc-André Landry on bass, Simon Angell (Patrick Watson) on guitar and Marianne Houle on cello. Connor Seidel produced the record, and co-mixed it with Warren Spicer (Plants and Animals).

The resulting Solitudes sold over thirty-five thousand units in Canada since its release in September 2016 and was nominated for Album of the Year (English-language) at the 2017 ADISQ Gala.

Band: Strung Out
Album: Black Out The Sky
VÖ: 11.05.2018
Label: Fat Wreck Chords / Edel

We're fired up to finally share with you the details of the new Strung Out EP, Black Out The Sky, to be released on May 11th. While Strung Out has made their name on intense, frenetic slabs of metal-influenced tech-punk, there is more to the band than meets the eye. It might come as a shock to learn that the band's new eight-song release is an acoustic affair, but as vocalist Jason Cruz explains, it's not nearly as surprising for the band members.

"Every song starts on an acoustic guitar for the most part," Cruz begins. "If it's a good song, it can be played acoustic. For about the past five years, I've been pushing the band to release a record in this format."

The result is six brand new songs, as well as two re-worked older songs, "Matchbook" and "UnKoil." On the 6th March was released the first new track stream from the EP, "Town of Corazon,"over at Brooklin Vegan. It's a surprisingly subdued song from a band who is usually anything but that. As if that weren't enough, Strung Out is touring the US and Canada with Pennywise, which kicks off on the 9th March!

Band: Dance Gavin Dance
Album: Artificial Selection
VÖ: 08.06.2018
Label: Rise Records / ADA Warner

Dance Gavin Dance have announced their brand new album 'Artificial Selection' which is out the 8th June via Rise Records.

Formed in 2005, the groundbreaking act which fuses elements of emo, post-hardcore, jazz fusion, progressive rock and screamo into their signature sound, has seen their last five album's chart on the Billboard Top 200.

Band: The Sidekicks
Album: Happines Hours
VÖ: 18.05.2018
Label: Epitaph / Indigo

Produced, engineered, and mixed by John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., Kurt Vile), Happiness Hours features some of the sunniest, most ebullient songs The Sidekicks have ever recorded--all ringing guitars, charging drums, and soaring vocals. That dynamic is more than apparent on the infectious lead single "Twins Twist," which premieres today. With its warm harmonies and shining melody, bouncing groove and bittersweet lyrics, "Twins Twist" also reveals the more narrative-driven direction that The Sidekicks pursued in creating Happiness Hours. As vocalist/guitarist Steve Ciolek explains, those narratives reach squarely toward a kind of universal experience.

"They are relative to my life, but they aren't just about me," says Ciolek, whose bandmates include drummer Matt Climer, guitarist/vocalist Toby Reif, and bassist/vocalist Ryan Starinsky. "Unlike when you're a kid, when every song has to be about falling in love or breaking up--about me, me, me--you get to a point when you really want your art to be inclusive. You want everyone to be able to locate themselves somehow in your songs."

Band: Sevendust
Album: All I See Is War
VÖ: 11.05.2018
Label: Rise Records / ADA Warner

Music unifies us when we need unification the most. It gives people a reason to put differences aside and come together.

In 1994, Sevendust first forged a familial tie amongst each other that translated into one of the most diehard audiences in the game. To this day, the connection between fans and the GRAMMY® Award-nominated, gold-certified hard rock outfit only grows stronger. For their twelfth full-length and first release for Rise Records, All I See Is War, the quintet--Lajon Witherspoon [lead vocals], Clint Lowery [lead guitar, backing vocals], John Connolly [rhythm guitar, backing vocals], Vince Hornsby [bass], and Morgan Rose [drums]--did the best thing they could possibly do to combat all of the division in the streets and on social media.

As Connolly puts it, they simply "made a Sevendust record."

"We're as polarized as we've ever been," he continues. "Discussion is not happening. Everyone is so quick to snap online. We're not listening. We're just talking. In these songs, we don't sugarcoat what's going on. For as dark as the subject matter may be, it's about hope. We know we can be in a better spot, because we've seen so many different individuals come together around music." "We take pride in the connection we have," adds Lowery. "We've always been a people's band. We're typical guys who just happen to make a career on stage. With this relationship to the fans, we realize how much we need each other, so we push ourselves to deliver. We don't stop. We keep moving."

Band: Lindi Ortega
Album: Liberty

Band: Chantal Acda & Bill Frisell
Album: Live at Jazz Middelheim
VÖ: 25.05.2018
Label/Vertrieb: Glitterhouse / Indigo

?When I wrote the songs of my record, I dreamt to hear Bill's sounds on it. I thought this feeling would go away but it never did. So I deceided to contact him to see if he would work with me and put the last pieces of the puzzle together on this record ("Bounce Back") . He liked the music so I flew to Seattle to record his wonderful guitarplaying on the songs. Meeting him felt like coming home. And this connection was still so fresh in my memory when I arrived back to Belgium. We kept in touch by writing eachother and sometimes he drew me funny faces. We were invited to play at the wonderfull Jazz Middelheim festival and finally ended up on stage together. In the dressingroom we quickly went through the songs but we kept all suprises for the stage. It was a wonderful experience for me. One of the highlights of my musical carreer. It wasn't ment to be recorded but it was. So listening back to these recordings we thought it would be nice to be able to share this with the people who were there but also the people who missed it and are curious to hear what happened.

I truly hope you will enjoy these moments. These moments that will always stick with me. With love, Chantal"

Band: Tami Neilson
Album: Sassafrass!
VÖ: 01.06.2018
Label: Outside Music / H'art

AUCKLAND, New Zealand -- Tami Neilson won't be staying New Zealand's secret for much longer. For the past decade, the Canadian-born, New Zealand-based singer/songwriter has been the queen of her adopted homeland's country and roots music scenes. She picked up handful of Best Country Album awards at the New Zealand Music Awards and won the prestigious APRA Silver Scroll for excellence in songwriting.

With her new album, SASSAFRASS! (due June 1 on Outside Music), Neilson takes a giant step that should only bring her more widespread acclaim. On this 11-track effort, she places a heavier emphasis on soul music while not abandoning her country and rockabilly roots. Neilson conjures up a wonderfully retro style that sounds like it could be a lost gem from the late '50s or early '60s; however, beneath the classic veneer are frank, highly relevant lyrics.

Sassafrass, a slang word for a sassy person who isn't afraid to speak her mind, serves as a perfect title for this album. The songs, Neilson admits, reflect her developing a "low tolerance for bullsh*t" after years of encountering sexism in her life. They were also influenced by her being a mother of two young boys as well as by the death of her father, who led the family's band, the Neilsons, which was popular in Canada during the '90s.

Band: Rafiq Bhatia
Album: Breaking English
VÖ: 06.04.2018
Label: ANTI- / Indigo

New York composer and guitarist Rafiq Bhatia seeks to shatter preconceptions about how much can be said without a word--and, for that matter, who can say it. Breaking English, Bhatia's audacious instrumental first album for ANTI- Records sets out to challenge existing musical vocabulary with a language of its own.

"'Hoods Up' was the first track I started on Breaking English, and one of the last ones I finished," explained Bhatia. "Years in the making, with multiple discarded versions littering the path to completion, the piece is the result of me trying to push myself beyond my limits. That required wading into uncharted territory, but it also meant accepting myself for who I am. I think the music carries some of the struggle of its creation with it."

"I started sculpting 'Hoods Up' in the wake of Trayvon Martin's senseless killing and the subsequent smear campaign against him: the systematic dehumanization of a young black teenager walking home in a hoodie. As I worked away at the song, escalating current events began to add layers of meaning to it. The white hoods from our country's past kept coming out of the woodwork, reminding us of the horrifying influence they continue to exert in the present."

Band: Culture Abuse
Album: Bay Dream
VÖ: 15.06.2018
Label: Epitaph / Indigo

On June 15, Culture Abuse will release their sophomore album Bay Dream. Featuring new single "Calm E," Bay Dream is the Bay Area-bred band's first full-length release for Epitaph Records. Produced, engineered, and mixed by Carlos de la Garza (Paramore, Jimmy Eat World, M83), Bay Dream follows Culture Abuse's 2016 debut Peach. The album elevates their melody-heavy garage punk to a new level, drawing inspiration from artists as eclectic as Sly and the Family Stone, Paul Simon, and reggae legend Billy Boyo.
With the album's lyrics largely informed by Kelling's recent relocation from San Francisco to Los Angeles, physical and emotional movement play off each other effortlessly throughout Bay Dream.

"I wrote songs in my head until I got a guitar," says Kelling in reflecting on Bay Dream's expansive sonic palette. "Just going after the sound that I think each song needs individually, so the sound is in constant change."

Along with Kelling, Culture Abuse features guitarists John Jr and Nick Bruder, bassist Shane Plitt, and drummer Ross Traver. Formed in 2013, the band signed to Epitaph Records earlier this year.

Band: Galactic Empire
Album: Episode II
VÖ: 04.05.2018
Label: Rise Records / ADA Warner

May the Fourth be with you!

Star Wars-themed, progressive instrumental band Galactic Empire have announced their new album Episode II. The album is out, appropriately so, on May the 4th via Rise Records.

"While our debut allowed us to bring a new perspective to much-loved anthems, our latest technological terror is a darker, heavier and far more epic testament to the true power of the Dark Side of the Force," said Galactic Empire. "We are confident that any rebel strongholds that remain after the last cycle will soon bow before the Empire. There will be no one to stop us this time."

Festival Anthem:

In Folge eine kurze Festival-History:
In 1992 the volunteers of O.J.C JERA '70 (the youth centre of Ysselsteyn) thought it was time to organise a regional open air festival. And so it was done... A few fences with black plastic, a trailer for a stage, tables as a bar, bottles of beer and JERA OPEN AIR was born. The volunteers got bitten by the festival bug and together with local entrepreneurs they built the festival grounds and from then the successful festival has been held every year.
Over the years, the volunteers grew by experience and the organisation became more professional, Jera On Air is still full DIY and thus organizited by only Volunteers. After the festival literally fell into the water during the 1999 performance of Pater Moeskroen, the organisation decided to turn things around.

In 2001 everyone could enjoy the results of this transformation: an atmospheric festival tent with open air grounds. The festival was given a new name, JERA ON AIR. The festival has grown a lot since. The festival grounds now consist of three festival tents, the famous Punkbrockbar with live punkrock Karoake, a Kraftbeer bar with Terras and very own Beer "the Bloody Herrie" which is served in reel Glass, a DJ stage for the afterparty, signing sessions, a halfpipe with BXM and Skateboard shows, a wide varierity of food stands a festival market and a camping. The festival is now being visited by more than 10.000 rock fans every year.

Here you can find a selection of the bands that performed at Jera On Air over the years:

Parkway Drive, Dropkick Murphys, Me First And The Gimme Gimmes, Hatebreed, Pennywise , A Day To Remember , Of Mice & Men, Sick Of It All, Enter Shikari, Suicidal Tendencies, Architects, Lagwagon, Millencolin, Beartooth, Municipal Waste, Asking Aleksandria, Terror, H2O, Comeback Kid, The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Bouncing Souls, Against Me!, Northlane, August Burns Red, While She Sleeps, Frank Carter And The Rattlesnakes, Neck Deep, Turnstile, The Amity Affliction, Thy Art Is Murder and many more...
