Nach 6 Jahren kündigen THE LAWRENCE ARMS mit "Skeleton Coast“ für den 17.07., endlich ein neues Studio-Album auf Epitaph an !
Die 14 melodischen Punk Rock Songs in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Langzeitproduzenten Matt Allison innerhalb von 2 Wochen aufgenommen, allerdings erstmals in den Sonic Ranch Studios in Texas:
"It was kind of like album camp in the sense that we were in this very remote setting for two weeks and really focusing on making the record. That was a very different experience for us because we’ve always made our records in Chicago which is home and all the things about home are in the way,” kommentiert Sänger und Gitarrist Chris McCaughan.

The album contains the elements of the band’s sound that fans have come to love for the past two decades but recontextualizes them in a way that somehow sounds perfectly aligned with this strange time in our collective history. Although it was written and recorded before the Coronavirus upended the world, the band’s seventh studio album sounds eerily prescient as it imagines an apocalyptic future where coyotes croon and wolf packs roam free. “For a band who has been around as long as us, this is about as urgent of a record as we could make,” vocalist and bassist Brendan Kelly explains. “It may be kind of dark but it’s really about searching for light in the darkness and finding it, as small as those moments may seem. That’s sort of where we’re at: Collecting the scraps of things that could make for a bearable existence in dark times.”
The Lawrence Arms have never had any agenda apart from just having fun and making good music. Since forming in Chicago in 1999—the trio of bassist/vocalist Brendan Kelly, guitarist/vocalist Chris McCaughan and drummer Neil Hennessy—have made albums that continually challenge the boundaries of their sound. Heute erscheint mit CHAT DOMESTIQUE ein weiterer Song aus dem für den 19.06. anstehenden Album ENTRE NOUS der kanadischen Künstlerin JILL BARBER.

Deleyaman is twenty years old this year and we have just discovered them. It's never too late. Never too late to discover what is beautiful. Deleyaman is from all walks of life with a mixture of influences, cultures, a band without frontiers.
Two evenings in a small Parisian theater is more than enough to set-up a session. Normally we avoid sound-checks, rarely the right moment for promotion when a band is legitimately occupied with something else.
But Deleyaman is also a rich and complex music and the sound-check of the second day is the right time to capture the beauty and richness of these harmonies and the contemporary and traditional balance of instruments and influences. It's hard to put words to Deleyaman's music, especially the emotions that it gives you. How it surrounds you, rocks you, touches you, moves you and makes you smile at the same time.

CHRISTIAN LEE HUTSON – Heute erscheint "BEGINNERS“ (Anti-/Indigo)
Heute erscheint BEGINNERS, das neue, von Phoebe Bridgers produzierte Album des US Songwriters CHRISTIAN LEE HUTSON auf Anti Records. Ein sehr feingliedrig gesponnenes Werk in der Schnittmenge Folk und Indie Pop. Phoebe Bridgers, die den Songs einen sehr luftigen aber auch fragil - warmen Sound verpasste, ist auch selber als Gastmusikerin auf dem Album vertreten.
On Beginners, Hutson embeds every lyric with his most intimate self-dialogue, sharing painful confessions and private jokes, imagined conversations and elaborate daydreams. The album spotlights a nuanced songcraft and understated candor that all but erases the distance between feeling and expression. Throughout this collection of songs, Hutson ultimately speaks an illuminating truth about regret and forgiveness and the endless confusion in growing up.
“I went with Beginners as the title because that’s where I feel like I am in my life—like I’m still just learning and trying to figure out how to navigate the world,” Hutson notes.
Hutson—who also co-wrote a song on the 2018 boygenius EP and two on the 2019 Better Oblivion Community Center LP—and Bridgers recorded Beginners at L.A.’s legendary Sound City Studios, but purposely preserved the homespun quality of his cell-phone-recorded demos. The album mines its subtle textures from Hutson’s warm vocals and graceful guitar work, and also unfolds flashes of sonic brilliance achieved with the help of its guest musicians—including Bridgers herself, as well as Nathaniel Walcott of Bright Eyes (who created all the string arrangements for the album, in addition to playing trumpet).

Anti- Records verkündet mit "Massey Fucking Hall“, das erste Live-Album des kanadische Duos JAPANDROIDS !
Erscheinen wird das Release Digital am 19.06., die Vinyl-Version folgt am 02.10. .
Die 12 Songs wurden in der historischen "Massey Hall“ in Toronto aufgenommen und bieten einen umfassenden Querschnitt der bis dato erschienenen drei Studioalben.
Schlagzeuger David Prowse kommentiert den Auftritt, in dem bereits 1894 gebauten legendären Konzertsaal wie folgt:
“We never thought we’d have the opportunity to play at Massey Hall. It’s the most legendary venue in Canada by far, but it didn’t seem like a natural spot for a band like us to play. It’s a 100+ year old seated theatre, which isn’t the usual type of spot you expect to see Japandroids. Honestly, when we got off the stage that night, I remember feeling a sense of relief and exhilaration, but the whole thing felt like a bit of a blur. It was a very emotional show for me. We were both pretty nervous getting up on that stage.”

“We’ve always loved playing that one live,It’s just got a great sense of momentum and never fails to get me hyped. During that tour we were playing it second or third in the set. It consistently feels like the moment in the set where I just get that sense of ‘oh yeah we’re cooking now,’ and everything just locks in and we’re ripping through the rest of the set. All the nerves are gone and it’s the moment where we’re just locked in and totally in the zone.”
A band known for their kinetic live shows and rigorous international touring schedule, Japandroids hope releasing their first-ever live album during this global pandemic can be a healing balm for their fans.
“I really, really miss live shows. I miss playing them and I miss being in the crowd. When you love music, there are few things more uplifting and cathartic than being in a room full of people at a live show. To not have that opportunity to experience live music together with a group of people has been hard to adjust to. It’s disorienting and it makes me sad to think about it. I hope that maybe in some small way people who are feeling similarly can find some solace in this record. They can hear the crowd and listen to us having the time of our lives at a historic venue and maybe that makes life a little easier for a minute and reminds them that those moments will happen again down the road.”

JOYCE MANOR - "Songs from Northern Torrance" Compilation erscheint heute

Die kalifornische Indie/Punk Band JOYCE MANOR kündigt für Freitag mit "Songs From Northern Torrance“ eine "Raritäten Compilation" auf Epitaph an.
Die nun neu überarbeiteten 10 Songs wurden ursprünglich zwischen 2008 und 2010 aufgenommen und bieten einen Einblick in die Anfänge der Band als akustisches Duo.
Als ersten musikalischen Vorgeschmack gibt es, den von Sänger Barry Johnson ersten geschriebenen Song für Joyce Manor "House Warning Party“ hier zu hören:

"A lot of early JOYCE MANOR songs are actually leftovers from earlier bands, but ‘House Warning Party‘ was the first song I wrote specifically for JOYCE MANOR. I was working at the Long Beach Aquarium and the first line of the song came to me while I was perusing the vending machine on my break. They had some LifeSavers and on the packaging it said ‘five flavors’ and the opening line of the song just popped in my head. The rest of the lyrics came effortlessly and the song was fully written in about the time it takes to listen to. Listening to it ten years later it sounds young and inspired and I’m impressed at how much of a story I was able to tell in just over a minute.”

Waschechte Melancholiker zeichnet eine allumfassende Schwermut aus. Doch die wenigsten von ihnen machen HipHop. Milan ist da anders. Der Rostocker baut seit seiner Jugend Beats und Tracks, liebt dunkle und – ja genau – melancholische Elektronik und schöpft aus ebendieser Schwermut die Kraft für das Leben und für seine Musik.

STEVE WAITT – neues Video “Another Disguise“ aus dem aktuellen Album
Während seiner letzten GSA Tour, sammelte der NY Musiker STEVE WAITT mithilfe des Kameramanns Bert Deyaert zahlreiche Eindrücke und verarbeitete diese nun zu einem sehr stimmigen Video. Der Song ANOTHER DISGUISE ist vom aktuellen Album ANOTHER DAY BLOWN BRIGHT (Make My Day Records / Indigo) und unterstreicht noch einmal wie vielfältig die Einflüsse und Stile sind, die Steve verarbeitet.
Mit seinem breit angelegten Traditional American Rock der zeitlos, mühelos und zielsicher die verschiedensten Einflüsse verbindet, traf und trifft er einen Nerv.
Während der Vorgänger quasi eine Zusammenstellung verschiedener EP’s war, ist ANOTHER DAY BLOWN BRIGHT ein kompaktes, am Stück geschriebenes Album.
Klassisch ist eine zutreffende und überaus positiv gemeinte Beschreibung seiner Songs und Sounds. Wo andere jedoch nur kopieren, rezitieren oder alten Wein in neuen Schläuchen anbieten, setzt Waitt eigene Akzente, lotet aus, setzt einen drauf und hat dank der hervorragenden Mitmusiker ( allen voran sein langjähriger Gitarrist Greg Tuoheny, der unter anderem ein (Gitarren)studierter und vielgefragter Session Gitarrist ist) bei jedem der 11 Songs das gewisse Mehr anzubieten.
